Art Competition Runner Up - Meliz

Art Competition - Voices of Resistance!

We think that female genital mutilation (FGM) is everybody’s business and that young people’s voices and views are essential to ending FGM. We believe that resistance, change, perseverance and survival are essential elements in the FGM campaign. What do you think?

We are pleased to showcase the brilliant art work of our runner-up:

Meliz Gozenler

Meliz is a 13 year old young person who is part of Arc Theatre’s Raised Voices Project.

Meliz says:

I first heard about FGM when I started going to Raised Voices, which is an all girls film and theatre project run by Arc Theatre. As a group we try to spread awareness about FGM through drama and our films. I think it’s very important for FGM to be known and understood and also talked about as people need to understand that FGM is physical and psychological abuse, and also counts as child abuse. FGM is a taboo subject, which is even more reason as to why people should be aware of it and should be able to talk about to effectively spread awareness.

We are really grateful for all the hard work from all the young people who submitted work into our competitions.
